History

The company was established in January 1996 as part of the Australian AACM International Group, and became part of Dames & Moore Group, one of the world’s leading US environmental consultancy and engineering firms, through the acquisition of AACM International by Dames & Moore in 1997. AACM Central Europe was purchased by its current management in 1999, and operates since January 2000 as an independent private firm with its headquarters in Budapest, a branch office in North Hungary and a representative based in Târgu Mureş (Romania).

Experience

AACM Central Europe offers a unique blend of skills and expertise to provide diverse strategic and technical support to clients with a key focus on the protection of the environment and the green economic transition. The specific expertise of the firm strongly interacts with the European pre-and post-accession process that has evolved within the Central and Eastern Europe over the last three decades.

 

AACM Central Europe has established strategic working relationship with leading international environmental and engineering firms, and collaborates with them on private sector projects in Hungary and in several other Central and Eastern European countries, in particular in Romania and the former Yugoslav states.

 

AACM Central Europe has developed an exposure in the institutional sector, as well. Main clients include the international aid agencies and financial institutions – European Commission, EBRD, EIB, UK and Dutch government services – as well as national and regional government agencies, municipalities and non-governmental organisations. AACM Central Europe is an active member of the British Chamber of Commerce in Hungary (BCCH) promoting the policy dialogue and economic cooperation between Hungary and the UK.

 

The international work experience of the firm includes the following countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Tunisia.

Core team members

Károly Oelberg

Károly has over 35 years of work experience in research, public and private sectors. He holds an MSc degree in Bioengineering and a postgraduate degree in Law Sciences. Last 25 years of his experience was particularly focused through:

  1. Environmental sector consultancy: 25-year work experience in environmental site, due diligence and EHS compliance assessments, environmental and social appraisals, Phase II investigations, in a wide variety of industrial and commercial operations.

  2. Sustainable energy sector: he has been involved in the implementation major loan-grant schemes funded the EIB, respectively by the EBRD aiming to finance energy efficiency and renewable investments in municipal, SME and residential sectors in Hungary (2009-2016), as well as ongoing EU-funded low-carbon projects (Horizon 2020, Interreg Central Europe and EUCF).

His country experience includes: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Tunisia. Károly is a member of the Council of the British Chamber of Commerce in Hungary.

Veronika Póka

Ms Póka has obtained MSc degrees in Environmental Engineering and Occupational Safety and Health Technology. She is a licensed Work Safety Engineer, a qualified Fire Safety Officer, and R2v3 (Responsible Recycling), ISO 9001,14001, 45001 Lead Auditor, IATF 16949 Supplier and internal auditor, APQP, PPAP certified. Ms Póka has 15 years of work experience in environmental site investigations, due diligence audits, EHS compliance audits, review of ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS18001, IATF 16949 management systems in a variety of sectors such as automotive, metal and plastic processing and construction materials industries, construction sites, chemical operations; and in health and safety risk assessment, preparation of health and safety and fire safety plans; conducting environmental, health and fire safety trainings, monitoring and enforcing the implementation of corporate and project specific safety and health standards. Veronika has actively taken part in our EU projects as well.

Ottó Oelberg

Ottó has 4 years of work experience in completing in environmental consultancy assignments and environmental, geophysical, geotechnical field investigation as well as participation in the development and implementation of geothermal investments. His expertise is particularly focused through completion of Phase I environmental site assessments and environmental due diligence audits; conducting or supervising Phase II field investigations including soil, soil gas, groundwater assessments, asbestos surveys and industrial hygiene investigations, as well as geotechnical and geophysical investigations of greenfield and brownfield areas and participation the design and implementation of geothermal investments funded by national and EU grants initiatives. Ottó holds a BSc degree in Earth Sciences and a MSc degree in Geophysics from the Eötvös Loránd University, Hungary. He is a certified Integrated ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Internal auditor (04/2020) and also a member of the innovative geoscience division.

Vencel Lovrity

Vencel has over 6 years of experience in the environmental sector. He holds a BSc degree in Earth Sciences and an MSc degree in Geology from the Eötvös Loránd University, Hungary, with a specialization in hydrogeology, environmental geology and petroleum geology. Prior to joining AACM in 2019, Vencel worked as an environmental geologist for Budapest office of Intergeo group particularly focusing on site investigation and remediation projects and other services associated to it. Since becoming part of the AACM team, Vencel has been involved in completion of several Phase I environmental site assessments and environmental due diligence audits, and also conducting and supervising Phase II field Investigations. Vencel has also relevant experience in adding technical inputs to energy efficiency related EU Projects.  With his strong skills in managing GIS systems and building numerical groundwater flow models and expertise in geological and hydrogeological field assessments, he is a key member of the company's innovative geoscience division.
